We would like to invite you to celebrate PHASE Gallery and its closing at the current location at 1718 Albion Street, Los Angeles. We are tremendously grateful to all the artists participating in our program, for sharing their gift of art, for their commitment and delivery. We are grateful to those who supported the artists, helping them materialize their vision. And we are beyond thankful to all the people who visited and emerged themselves in this dialogue - for showing up, paying attention and opening up to the exchange. The final exhibition at the current location “constellating_body_(files)” by Ewa Słapa spins out from the traces of the events that have taken place at the gallery space. They echo the con-figurations of people present at previous art openings, but at the same time they overlap with other traces, transposed from a distant location of a family home, or derived from an imagined formation of a renaissance sculpture. The figures fixated as points in/of memory become connected with the implied lines, mapping the psycho-spacial dynamics between them. The lines as interpretive traces of inner dynamics are reminiscent of principles of German psychotherapist Bert Hellinger and his family constellations therapeutic method. The trace of the dynamic - here - becomes a form. It’s a chart of seeing, a blend of gaze, body and memory, fusing and confusing geometries of the imaginary and the actual into an inner grammar. It’s a mental map for self-orientation, effecting in a posture towards the world- an implicit trace of the past shaping and coexisting with the future. “Loneliness is not an abstract”- writes the poet David Whyte, “it is the body constellating, attempting to become proximate, calling to join with other bodies, through physical touch, through conversation or the mediation of the intellect and the imagination. […] Human beings are made to belong.”
