The Visual and Media Arts Department at Los Angeles City College proudly presents This Archipelago, an exhibition featuring twenty artists from the greater Los Angeles area and beyond. Unfettered in its mutability, clay has anchored conversations in both popular and cultural consumption, serving as utilitarian wares and discursive objects. This ability to slide between the quotidian and the singular infers the irreconcilable character of theartists' investigations in This Archipelago. Indeed, these works function as conveyances that embrace and refuse the identity of tradition inherent to this material. Approaches to shape, surface, and representation mark the decisions of these artists; a catalog of concerns that index not only formal preoccupations but map the shores of everyday life. Artists in the exhibition include Josh Cloud, Brian Dario, Brad Eberhard, Echo Park Pottery, Rowan Harrison, Stanya Kahn, Lindsay Kane, CandiceLin, Jane Margarette, ChristopherMiles, Brittany Mojo, Jude Pauli, Tamara Santibañez, Aili Schmeltz, Claudia V. Solórzano, Nathan Stanfield, Cammie Staros, Tonna, Kim Torres, Christian Vargas, and Amia Yokoyama. Organized by Andrés Janacua.
