Art Division’s exhibition Heads opens June 8th 2024 and runs through August 31 2024, It is inspired by another show entitled Head On/The Modern Portrait. Curated by artist Chuck Close for the Museum of Modern Art, all the work was from the museum’s permanent collection. Heads is curated by Luis Serrano and Dan McCleary. Both artists saw Close’s show in 1991 when it traveled to the Lannan Foundation in Marina del Rey. Dan and Luis were captivated by the presentation of endless ways to interpret the human head. Looking at portraits can stir not only empathy for the subject and the world of emotions evident in their faces, it can provoke a keener understanding of what the human face reveals. Art Division’s exhibition will explore the many diverse depictions of faces that surround us, and will include over one hundred drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures. Artists include Art Division students, staff, and faculty, as well as artists from LA and beyond.
