IDOLWILD is proud to present “Where I’m From: Observations of Culture in Los Angeles” curated by Calvin Leonard and Paulo Freire Lopez. This photography exposition speaks directly to the soul of Los Angeles, capturing the essence of its natives, locals, and devoted residents who embrace the city's diverse landscapes, spirited activism, vibrant neighborhoods, and unapologetic counterculture that kindles the spirit of this great Southern California city. Featured Los Angeles photographers include Arlo Karikomi, Bobby Rivero, Albert Segoviano, Ivan Diaz, Kei Rowan-Young, Paulo Freire Lopez, Sam Lawless, Cargo, Yasmina Ahmed, Danny Vasquez, Calvin Leonard and Natasha Hurrell. The exhibition will be on view from June 8 through July 7, 2024. We ask the community to come join us for the opening reception Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm. Where I’m From gives viewers access into the lives of 12 photographers. Through a raw and unfiltered documentary style, the exhibit illuminates the west side districts of Venice to Highland Park in the east. Each artist will evoke wider explorations from their communities, giving visitors a window into an environment of personal exclusivity. Beyond L.A’.s glossy facade, Where I'm From delves deep into the roots that anchor Los Angeles, revealing its resilience and authenticity amidst the glitz and glamour.
