Steve Turner is pleased to present Sleeping with Ghosts, a solo exhibition featuring new paintings by Giorgio Celin that address his struggle for self-worth and validation, the complexities of family relationships as well as significant connections with a beloved dog and a former partner. Celin’s recurring imagery of natural elements and his use of contrasting light and dark tones add depth to these narratives, symbolizing growth, resilience, and the dualities of joy and sorrow. Giorgio Celin (born 1986, Barranquilla, Colombia) moved to a small town near Naples in 1994 and later relocated to Barcelona where he now lives. He is self-taught and organically developed his own painting style to address issues relating to migration, belonging, queerness and the complexity of the Latin diaspora. He has had solo exhibitions at Taymour Grahne Projects, London (2021); Galleria Annarumma, Naples (2022); Kornfeld Gallery, Berlin (2022) and Spinello Projects, Miami (2023). This is his first exhibition at Steve Turner. - Steve Turner is pleased to present Salt Water, a solo exhibition by Orlando-based MJ Torrecampo that features new paintings inspired by their parents’ retirement and subsequent return to the Philippines after many years in the United States. Water represents the vast, physical divide between the two countries and is a device that the artist uses to connect and isolate figures with their complex compositions. The works also relate to Torrecampo’s ongoing exploration of the relationship between the individual within the group as they struggle to reconcile the need to form an individual identity inside the American framework amidst their strong roots within Filipino culture. MJ Torrecampo (born 1992, Philippines) earned an MFA at the New York Academy of Art (2020) and a BFA at the University of Central Florida (2014). They have had solo exhibitions at Gallery Ascend, Hong Kong (2024); Canepaneri Gallery, Milan (2021) and Canepaneri Gallery, Genoa (2020). This is Torrecampo’s first solo exhibition with Steve Turner. - Steve Turner is pleased to present I Never Promised You A Rose Garden, a solo exhibition featuring new paintings by Los Angeles-based Brittany Fanning that depict imagined Southern California gardens. Maximal as they are, these works represent a concerted effort by Fanning to simplify her work. Without sacrificing her characteristic bountiful use of color and thick application of paint, these paintings focus on one specific subject, that every plant can flourish in Southern California, and in these canvases, many do all at once. Fanning has omitted the subjects that are common in her past works. There are no alligators, wild cats, sports cars, lounging women, volcanos or buffet tables full of food. According to Fanning, Some of my favorite paintings by other artists are minimalist. I doubt that such paintings are in my future, but I thought I might take a first step and try using fewer symbols so that my paintings could be read differently by each viewer. Brittany Fanning (born 1991, Jacksonville, Florida) earned a BA at the University of North Georgia, Dahlonega (2014), spent seven years developing her painting practice in Seoul, before moving to Los Angeles in April 2022. She began exhibiting in Korea in 2018 and has had recent solo exhibitions at The Lodge, Los Angeles (2023); OTI, Los Angeles (2023) and Galerie BHAK, Seoul (2022). This is her first exhibition at Steve Turner.
