Leiminspace is proud to announce the opening of “Yours, Forever” a duet exhibition of works by multimedia artists Susan Aparicio and Monica Juarez. In this show, the artists explore emotions of fulfillment and emptiness that blossom in the gap between physical and digital space. Through iridescent paints, welded glass, video art, and plush sculptures, the two artists co-create a shimmery installation of physical works which gently grasp at the glowing materiality of the Y2K digital realm. Avatars, metallic surfaces, and elements of antiquated GUIs recapture the texture of early 2000s digital culture, the time during which both artists came of age. Sculptures, which resemble devices like mp3 players and tamagotchis, showcase and honor once unattainable items, overlapping the nostalgia for luxury objects with the fleeting satisfaction of possessions, revealing underlying feelings of sadness and longing. In working together, Aparicio, a mixed media glass and video artist and Juarez, a soft-sculptor and ceramicist, build a larger language for expressing a sort of ache which accompanies discontinuity- be it that between the digital and the physical, past and present, adolescence and adulthood, the real and the fake.
