OPaf (Other Places art fair ) 6, a highly anticipated annual community contemporary art festival, will take place at Angels Gate Cultural Center (3601 S. Gaffey St, San Pedro 90731) on September 14, 2024, from 11 AM to 9 PM. This free, sixth annual event marks a significant milestone for the Los Angeles County-based nonprofit arts organization, dedicated to supporting unconventional and underrepresented artists, art project spaces, and art programming since its founding in 2017. Operating outside traditional art systems, OPaf 6 provides a platform for diverse artists of all backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses, creating an inclusive, outdoor space for artistic projects united by the intention to exist in alternative settings. This one-day event features over thirty booths featuring over 100 participating local and national contemporary artists gathering in and around Battery Leary-Merriam, a decommissioned Army battery on the grounds of Angels Gate Cultural Center. In an exciting development, OPaf 6 will feature a Workshop Tent and a Reading and Talking Tent. The Workshop Tent is an educational community art workshop area and a vibrant hub for community engagement, offering a range of interactive workshops and creative activities designed to bring people together. The Reading and Talking Tent will feature a day-long program of writers, thinkers, and performers presenting their work in an intimate setting. Both tents cater to individuals of all ages and backgrounds, fostering a sense of community through shared artistic experiences, promoting cultural appreciation and lifelong learning. Other Places art fair has been featured in Art Forum, LA Weekly, KCRW, and Hyperallergic, demonstrating its impact on the art community.
