"UPSIDE" by FRANK PALETTA presented by Clark Gregg: bG Gallery and the Simone Gad Foundation are pleased to present the second solo exhibition from artist Frank Paletta titled "Upside". The title "Upside" speaks of the beauty that can be found in the imperfections of the world and within ourselves. “If you look past imperfection, what you may find is magic”. The artist evolves his perspective from his first solo exhibition four years ago, Radical Acceptance, to one of deeper optimism and light. This higher vibration is expressed through his sensitive coarseness of marks, shapes, textures in paintings like Peacekeeper. Dense atmospheres of rich colors leading around and through inner and outer space in Soul Reunion and Maitri. A survivor of a near-death mountain climbing accident at the age of 19, Paletta has overcome paraplegia and constant pain to make art, teach and be of service to his community. His new body of work encompasses a philosophical growth, energetic layering's of expressive colors alluding to figurations and landscapes, with poetic moments of pause across the spatial planes of canvases. Join the artist for the opening reception on Saturday, September 14th from 6 to 9pm Frank Paletta aims to gain a new studio to teach others to paint from the proceeds of this exhibition and seeks to expand his practice and vision through an artist residency in Italy. bG Gallery specializes in accomplished artists who have crossed traditionally contentious art ideologies, including expressive-conceptual, insider-outsider, high-low, and figurative-abstract. We aim to bring authentic art with elements of the human spirit back to the forefront of the contemporary art scene. About the Artist. Frank Paletta, a Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist, a spinal cord injury survivor and ambulatory paraplegic. His works in oil contemplate the complexities of learning to live wholly within the physical limitations of his physical form while adapting to the ambiguous and often contradictory thoughts and emotions that come with working as a disabled artist in America. Over the years, Frank has drawn deeply on the events of his personal life for inspiration and finds the sheer physicality of the painting process both therapeutic and essential to the ongoing development of his creative vision. His paintings explore personal identity, movement, energy, and the collective impulse to transform the darkest parts of the human experience into something palpable.
