Block Gallery is pleased to present our newest exhibition: “CONFRONTATIONS” by Parrish McKittrick
“Confrontations” lies on the precipice of coming into one's fullest form. The horizon between the light and dark. The dance between gravity and space. To be pulled into the deepest recesses of your inner mind, where questions and doubts reside within the enigmatic place (space) of contentment and continuum.
In this body of work, Parrish confronts and engages with the truth of loss and mortality. He creates each piece through deep spiritual conveyance, submerging into what is a never-ending quest for understanding within the realm we exist in and all that exist beyond it. Herein lies the raison d’être for “Confrontations”. The navigation through self, where one is in a world consumed by the histrionic pattern of oppression in all forms, through the monetization of wars and violence, through the rising of complete agency of self and those who oppose it.
“Confrontations” speaks to all of us embarking on a journey to self awakening and being in complete union with all the emotions that flow through us. Inspired by the death of his mother which catalyzed a purging that brought to surface the concept of ‘self’. What is self? Who are you?
Presenting Confrontations, an inaugural show by artist Parrish McKittrick (b. 1983, WV) is a self-taught contemporary artist who draws on personal experiences, emotional connections, and the works of other creative artists to drive his unique expressions of life.
Parrish gives life’s underlying themes breath with acrylics, oils, and pastels. Everything has meaning. Each piece is personal. He carries with him images from living in DC, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and now LA; as well as his multiple cross-country excursions and trips to Europe, Africa and Haiti.
Although life serves as his main inspiration, Parrish also uses his lifelong love of music and personal relationship with God as motivation for his deep, often thought-provoking pieces.
His distinct colorways pop to emphasize each work’s specific subject matter and message.
Parrish is currently in his 16th year working in the music industry.
