Forage: Ocean is the second annual exhibition of foraged materials at Dorado 806, diving, this year, into the depths of the sea for material and meaning. Leaning into the slightly quixotic notion that art can save the planet, in small ways, one shampoo cap at a time, this show aims to do just that. Materiality and time are vectors of the collective work of the show as ocean-washed plastic is woven, punctured, and stitched, sand is impressed and filled with cement, and turmeric turns canvas to varying shades of deep ochre. The commentary on our relationship with the ocean spans protection, slow presence, observation, longing, and deep love.
On Oct 12 and 13th, we will be joined by a team from the Japanese Studies Department of UCLA for a series of tea ceremonies in a tea house made from foraged materials from the ocean.
