A special exhibition highlighting Sumukhwa (Korean Ink Painting) and celebrating the upcoming 2025 Jeonnam International Sumuk Biennale. The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (KCCLA, Director Jung Sang-won), in collaboration with Jeollanamdo Province (Governor Kim Yung-rok), proudly presents the special exhibition, Flowing Wind, Blowing Waves. The exhibition will take place from September 26th – October 31st, 2024 at the Korean Cultural Center’s Art Gallery at 5505 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036. This exhibition, held in the U.S. for the first time, introduces the beauty and excellence of Korean ink painting to the American art scene. It also aims to promote the upcoming 2025 Jeonnam International Ink Biennale, featuring 10 large-scale works from the Jeonnam Museum of Art that blend traditional and contemporary elements of Korean Sumukhwa. Sumukhwa, translating to ink wash painting, embodies the harmony between nature and humanity, highlighting the depth of simplicity. This shared cultural heritage across Asia, particularly in Korea and China, will be featured in a diverse array of works. The exhibition showcases both traditional techniques and contemporary approaches, exploring themes of everyday life, spirituality, and expanded artistic expression. The exhibition features work by ten prominent contemporary Korean artists, including Hur Jun, Huh Daljae, Jo Yongbaek, Kim Hodeuk, Laurent Grasso, Kim Sundoo, Kim Seungyoung, Kim Chenil, Jo Byeongyeon, and Kim Hyungjin. The opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, September 25th at 6:00 PM at the KCCLA’s 2nd Floor Art Gallery. The exhibition is open to the public and runs until October 31, 2024.
