David will be on hand to talk about his exhibition "Lobospheres."
David Ellis is a documentary/fine art photographer from Los Angeles who captures details that interpret social transformations and pivotal human and natural trends. The photographs start out as pure documentarian records of individual moments but are then abstracted to convey a deeper, more expansive meaning. His work reflects a lifelong passion for social and environmental topics.
"Lobospheres: The Lost Souls of Point Lobos”
David's current exhibition focuses on climate change and the accelerating extinction of our natural world. His metaphoric approach to photographic documentation differs from traditional journalistic techniques. Lobospheres archives the changing landscape of Point Lobos natural preserve in Northern California over the span of 20 years of visits. These captured close-up details of granite rocks at Weston Beach come to life, serving as a celebration, elegy, and a cautionary tale of what we will inevitably lose. Much like many on the West Coast, this storied beach is being swallowed up by sea level rise and is likely to disappear altogether within the decade.
Lobospheres reminds us of what we take for granted and rarely take the time to see.
