Theodosia Marchant’s solo, OIKOS, debuts at ShockBoxx Gallery in Hermosa Beach on Saturday, September 28th at 6 PM. The title, OIKOS, nods to Marchant’s birthplace in Athens, Greece. For her, the significance of this word has transformed over the years. From Greece to London to finally planting roots in Los Angeles, Marchant has found a deeper understanding of what defines home. Whether innate to the backdrop of our childhood or forged in the safe haven we create as adults, it is instinctually a place we return time and time again. Tethered by a bond to the people and the mementos that surround our places of refuge, OIKOS is where we allow ourselves to bear witness to our true selves, it is a place we can take risks and let go. A home away from home, ShockBoxx has been a conduit of exploration, growth and community for Marchant from the very beginning of her artistic journey. The gallery’s inception very closely coincided with her move to L.A., and after one meeting it was clear with their mutual ethos, drive and vibrancy, intrinsic ties were made. Now, nearing seven years later and deeply woven into the ShockBoxx family of artists, Marchant takes her place at center stage with this intimate, immersive and impactful presentation. Unguarded and bold, this exhibition heightens the sense of nostalgia in Marchant’s fantastically ethereal world.
Theodosia Marchant, a Greek-British national residing in Los Angeles, holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Law from London. She is a dual-qualified attorney in English and Greek law with extensive legal practice in the UK. In 2013, she relocated to the US from Europe. Since 2016, Marchant has been showcasing her work widely in the US and abroad. Her first international solo exhibition was in Beirut in 2023, and to date her art has been featured in Japan, Lebanon, Spain, Greece, Germany, and Cyprus. OIKOS is Marchant's sixth solo exhibition.
OIKOS will open on September 28th from 6 PM to 9 PM and will close on October 25th.
