ViGiL is an invitation, an offering, and a portal. This show opens on Samhain (pronounced “SAH-wain”), the Celtic celebration of the Harvest. It is a time when light changes to the dark of winter, a time of great change, a turn inward, and a time when the veil is thinnest and connection with other realms is at its most potent and available. The collection of work is reflective of this collective seasonal pause as an action and a presence. It is work that holds space, that is observant, that honors, and that acts as an open channel with other-than-human beings and understandings. Inherent in the change of season is the cycle of life and death, the tension of opposites—light and dark, growth and decay, the passage of time, and pause. And yet within these dichotomies, there is a non-dual meeting place that exists simultaneously for a moment and for all of eternity. Vigil contemplates small, meaningful acts of mediation, ritual, and being, and through these expressions offers a moment of decompression and peace as we welcome the unknown of the next phase of being.
