Los Angeles, CA – Cámara Obscura Studios is pleased to announce the closing event of The Venezuelans: Chronicles in Collage, Assemblage, and Video Art on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, at 4 PM. This group exhibition, part of the Brewery ArtWalk Fall 2024, features the compelling works of Venezuelan-American artists Juan Herrera, Adriana Rondón, and Verónica Aponte, whose artistic practices engage deeply with themes of identity, migration, memory, and socio-political history. This intimate exhibition transforms the artist studio space into a cultural crossroads where personal and collective histories intersect through the mediums of collage, assemblage, video art, and photography. The closing event will feature live performances and reflections by the artists: Adriana Rondón will present a special live performance titled “PILONERA”, which explores cultural and personal memory through movement and storytelling. Juan Herrera will deliver a reading tied to his collage and video work, offering a personal reflection on the themes of the exhibition. The exhibition, recently highlighted by El Universal, one of Venezuela’s most prominent newspapers, has been praised for offering “a profound vision of the complexities of bicultural existence, providing fresh perspectives on how displacement redefines identity and belonging.” This closing event marks the final opportunity for visitors to experience The Venezuelans, the first in a series of intimate showcases aimed at highlighting the voices of Venezuelan-American artists in the Western United States. The exhibition offers a unique contrast to the Venezuelan art scene in Florida’s Golden Coast, where many artists continue to focus on optical art and geometric abstraction, while remaining within traditional frameworks. In contrast, the artists in The Venezuelans have developed their careers primarily in the United States, integrating themselves into broader contemporary art conversations and addressing deeply personal and socially charged themes beyond formal artistic concerns. As part of the Brewery ArtWalk—the largest art walk in the country at the USA's largest artist colony—this series of exhibitions at Cámara Obscura Studios will continue to build a platform for ongoing conversations about the Venezuelan and Latinx diasporic experience. Select pieces will be available for purchase, and attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with the artists, discussing their work and artistic process. As a gesture of appreciation, attendees will also receive early access to future exhibitions and private studio visits at Cámara Obscura Studios, as well as invitations to upcoming workshops and exhibitions currently in development.
