AUTOBODY autobody is excited to unveil 'Chair Show', an exhibition of one-of-a-kind chairs from a local roster of Los Angeles artists, designers, and makers.
Chairs are arguably the most redesigned everyday object in existence—both essential and banal, an item so familiar that we often overlook its potential for reinvention. And yet, throughout history, chairs have carried immense cultural, political, and artistic weight. From thrones to office chairs, from the original folding chair to Pesce’s umbrella chair, the chair has been a marker of its time, a reflection of its maker, and a vessel for new ideas.
'Chair Show' continues this right of passage through the hands of emerging artists and makers. These are the chairs of tomorrow, shaped by a community of young makers eager to define what comes next.
Some pieces are still in progress, fresh from the table saw, hot off the welding bench—capturing the immediacy and urgency of creation. Others challenge the very notion of what a chair can be, embracing experimentation and conceptual rigor.
This exhibition is a celebration of the unestablished chair—the chair that exists in flux, between function and form, between tradition and the unknown. It is both an homage to the rich history of chair design and a declaration of what’s to come.
