Alicia Rojas's works are vibrant documentations of the rich communities of which she is a part and we celebrate her work as an 18th Street Arts Center-Creative Corps, (a pilot initiative of the California Arts Council,) and her book, "Poderosas.” Join us, along with LA Times Columnist Gustavo Arellano for chats, selfies, a video short, chips, & salsa. Alicia Rojas’s portrait series, and the broader “Poderosas” project includes 63 oral histories, a digital archive, a brass sculpture and monument located at Latino Health Access headquarters in downtown Santa Ana, CA. The publication, “Poderosas” features 63 portraits that highlights the health advocates (Promotoras) individuality and simultaneously showcases their unbeatable strength when they all came together to care and advocate for their community as a collective body in the same way worker bees serve as an example of collective work.
