Rhett Baruch Gallery is pleased to announce Colt Seager’s (b. 1993, Illinois) inaugural solo exhibition, following his debut as the first painter featured in our gallery in 2022. This show marks a key milestone in his career, offering a deeper exploration of his evolving practice and inviting our audience to engage with his distinct vision.
Seager’s paintings transcend color as a mere visual element, using it as a language—a conversation between nature and the viewer. Inspired by the unexpected placements of colors in the natural world, he creates compositions where each hue tells a story, drawing from the vibrant colors of the Midwest landscape, including wildflowers, grasses, rivers, and forests. His approach is intuitive and personal, focusing on translating nature's beauty into something deeply felt rather than merely seen.
His work is also influenced by the Celtic tradition of the "thin place," where nature and the divine seem effortlessly connected. His paintings serve as windows into these spaces, inviting viewers to pause and reflect. Each piece is a living conversation, with colors and forms evolving gradually through the process, inviting contemplation and connection. Seager aims to evoke a sense of spirituality and awe, creating a space for viewers to question their place in the world.
The opening reception is this Saturday, March 22, from 5-8 PM at Rhett Baruch Gallery, located at 6057 Melrose Ave, 90038. The artist will be present. Refreshments will be provided, and rideshare is encouraged.
