"Aggregate" a Performance by Linda Franke
at Human Resources with Laura Stinger and Matthew McGaughey * one night only
A score for anarchistic behavior in public space, with voices falling in and out of sync with colors.
Featuring a mobile rock, a cold fence, and a spinning fountain.
Aggregate
Moving something from one place to another.
Pushing things away, towards, parallel, against.
Moving something with a purpose.
This thing is now over here.
Where should it be?
Is something happening when we don´t know what´s happening?
Moving in and out of sync.
Being in and out of sync with machines that tell us what to do.
Being in sync with people, objects, and immaterial things.
Working together at the same time and speed or
in disagreement for a moment.
Moving out of sync with your own voice.
With the voice of someone else.
In between.
We like that the prop appears real but is not.
Paper instead of concrete.
Stabbing someone but the knife bends.
Testing if our imagination is strong enough to override the facts of reality.
The expectation of the illusion and the revelation of nothing new. Again.
Orienting yourself within the dimensions of public space.
Dimensions express rules and establish territories.
Can dimensions function as an emotional map?
You look small next to this rock.
The traffic light is three times the size of your belly.
The idea of the fence is to block and protect.
Could it be tender and playful instead, with no job?
The idea of a rock is that it's heavy and static- maybe some of them roll.
You can only go around or over.
The fountain is a place for rest and leisure, it has a romantic atmosphere.
You don´t need it but you love when it's around.
