"Caddi B backspace (digital negatives)" is a book featuring images of digital negatives used to make an oil painting series – an alternative photographic process that blurs the line between photography and painting. Caddi B Backspace is an invented space built in the gated lot behind the artist’s studio to frame "Caddi B" sculpture, with the purpose of exploring compression, seriality and maneuverability between mediums. The project insists on the singular form, "Caddi B", as its matrix. Its central mechanism is looping, continually self-referential as much as it compresses between surfaces onto flat media: prints, drawings, wall projections. Kiva Garber-Maikovska is an artist who lives and works in Los Angeles and received their MFA from Art Center College of Design in 2018. Funding for this book was generously granted by Fiona Connor’s Laurel Doody Library Supply and Book Club, 2024.
