631 West 2nd St., Los Angeles, CA 90012
Saturday, June 21 at 1:00 PM 3:00 PM
Ends Jun 21, 2025
TRADE SECRETS: Freedom of Information Act workshop is programmed as part of the exhibition Abigail Raphael Collins: BLACKOUT, on view at REDCAT through August 10, 2025. In this workshop participants will learn how the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was instrumental for Abigail Raphael Collins in making the film BLACKOUT, and learn how to submit a FOIA request of their own from an artistic perspective. This workshop begins by considering how to ask for information when we’re not aware it exists in the first place. How do we notice a blackout? Workshop participants are invited to bring a specific area of inquiry, to discuss the possible ways to submit a FOIA, and to think more broadly about the complexities of interfacing with federal agencies, especially in a political climate of extreme censorship. The workshop is for artistic purposes and does not constitute legal advice. Event has limited capacity and registration is required. Workshop attendees should bring a laptop or personal computer. Contact theiman@calarts.edu if you would like to attend but will need a computer provided to you. Sign up here: https://www.redcat.org/form/trade-secrets
