Tappan is pleased to present ELSEWHERE a group exhibition. ELSEWHERE is an exhibition that traverses the terrain of landscape—both abstract and representational—as a means of mapping our relationship to place, memory, and imagination. Through painting, sculpture, and mixed media, the artists in ELSEWHERE consider the landscape not as a fixed geography but as an evolving interior space: a site for longing, projection, and possibility.
Whether dissolving a horizon line into gesture or rendering a dreamlike topography in vivid detail, these works invite viewers to travel beyond the physical and into psychological and speculative terrains.
ELSEWHERE asks: What does it mean to inhabit a place not yet arrived at? How do the landscapes we imagine shape the futures we build—and the identities we carry?
The exhibition also expands the idea of place to include the emotional journeys of the self and the invented geographies of fictional worlds. By capturing the inner life of the mind—its memories, visions, and desires—these works chart a different kind of landscape: one where feeling, memory, and narrative create
their own topography. In this space between observation and invention, the familiar becomes fantastical, and the unknown feels uncannily close.
Artists featured in the exhibition include: Gia Coppola, Sasha Court, Marleigh Culver, Michael DeSutter, Ali Enache, Luis Ignacio Figallo, Lisa Hardy, Michael Harnish, Yeon Kyung Park, Jan Prengel, Arran Rahimian, Marina Ross, Jessica Sellinger, Satsuki Shibuya and Ryan Snow.
