Artist Bio:
Originally from Kansas, Doug Hurley is a Los Angeles–based artist by way of New York City. His works are ghosts of feelings—vibrant mists of stroke and color that convey the ineffable.
Known for his richly textured and dynamic compositions, Hurley vividly explores the interplay between color, movement, form, and space. He evokes a sense of otherworldly beauty, weaving swirling chromatic streaks with shards of light suspended in inky blackness or fields of white.
His innate composition, unique color palette, and kinetic strokes transform each piece into an intimate exchange between painting and viewer— touching on deep memory and a sense of familiarity, treading the murky line between the known and the unknown.
Through a highly intuitive yet deliberate process, he traverses the canvas with color and shape until the image begins to emerge from within. From there, Hurley guides the work to its destination, inviting viewers to lose themselves in the abstract worlds he creates—exploring the ceaseless anonymity of the present moment.
