Also on view will be Backstreet to the American Dream, a film by Patricia Nazario that examines the experiences of Latin immigrants in Los Angeles. MAIN GALLERY: SUR: biennial Founded in 2011, the SUR: biennial is an ongoing exhibition series that highlights the impact of Latin American and Caribbean cultures on contemporary art worldwide. Affective Territories, Alternate Belongings explores technology as an extension of humanity and its desire to transcend the physical self. The selected works reflect on the increasingly blurred boundaries between digital and physical spaces, inviting viewers to consider how new territories of identity and connection are formed in an ever-evolving world. Participating Artists: Allyson Packer & Jesse Fisher (United States), Camille Dumont (Switzerland), Chrystele Nicot & Antoine Alesandrini (France), Holly Veselka (United States), Joe Harjo (United States), Laine Rettmer (United States), Margaret Noble (United States), Paul Moore (Northern Ireland, UK), Scott Massey (Canada), Sophie Dia Pegrum (British/American), Spencer Chang (United States), Woohee Cho (South Korea/United States) This exhibition is curated and organized by Gioj De Marco and Elizabeth Withstandley of Prospect Art. It is co-created by Prospect Art’s 2023–24 Curatorial Fellow, Prima Jalichandra Sakuntabhai, and 4th-WALL Program Manager, Pedro Inock. DARK ROOM: Backstreet to the American Dream A portrait of race, labor, and class, Backstreet to the American Dream, by Patricia Nazario, offers an immersive look at blue-collar entrepreneurs and Latino immigrants navigating the collision of hustle and hardship in the heart of Los Angeles. Championed by Jarritos and Executive Producer Dolores Huerta, a Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree, this award-winning documentary is set in Los Angeles at the peak of the $2 billion global food truck boom. The 90-minute journey moves beyond culinary fads to cut deep into the gritty layers of L.A.’s less-glamorous neighborhoods. What emerges is a sobering reality check: a bilingual portrait of entrepreneurs with limited options.
