Winslow Garage is pleased to present a selection of plein air paintings and drawings by Los Angeles based artist Lisa Bahouth. Created in Griffith Park over the past two years, these works highlight Bahouth’s lyrical, searching line work and her sophisticated use of color. Working primarily in watercolor and pastel, she brings her background in abstraction into dialogue with direct observation of the landscape, resulting in a dynamic interplay between representation and interpretation. Lisa Bahouth is a multidisciplinary artist raised in Upstate New York and England. She studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and received her BFA from The Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture. In addition to her work as a visual artist, Bahouth is an accomplished pianist. Often using her pencil to record the vibrations of movement while traveling, she records her experiences through a kind of visual mapping that merges memory, motion, and environment. Her recent work is rooted in British “objective abstraction”—a mode of abstraction informed by direct observation of the natural world, but filtered through improvisation, emotion, and personal resonance. Bahouth’s work has been exhibited internationally, including in Russia, England, Japan, and Armenia, as well as throughout the United States.
