Tetrapod Gallery is pleased to present Efímera, the debut solo exhibition by Vero Romero. Romero, a Mexican-born oil painter based in Los Angeles, unveils a contemplative meditation on the transient nature of existence. Through surreal and symbolic compositions, Efímera explores the tension between what endures and what fades—reflecting on the emotional complexity of impermanence: the beauty of transformation, the inevitability of change, and the profound significance of temporality. Across Efímera, we encounter figures rendered in stone: silent, sculptural, and suspended in a dreamlike vacuum. While stone traditionally symbolizes permanence, Romero introduces cracks and fractures that reveal its transience. Organic elements weave through Romero’s body of work, where, in contrast to the stone’s illusion of timelessness, nature conveys the acceptance and beauty of the ephemeral. Drawing from her Mexican heritage, Romero incorporates florals not only as symbols of life and remembrance but also as spiritual guides. In Mexican tradition, flowers adorn altars to guide and honor the dead, serving as bridges between the mortal and spiritual realms. Efímera draws deeply from this cultural perspective—where death is not feared or hidden but integrated and into life, commemorated with ritual, and embraced with reverence. Through shifting scenes, the viewer is invited into a world of symbolic gestures and surreal moments. Blending magical realism, abstraction, and cultural memory, Efímera becomes a space to reflect, to feel, and to celebrate impermanence.
