Billy Kheel and Pat Riot: Doubleplay
900 N Broadway Suite 1090, Los Angeles, CA 90012
Saturday, October 11 at 5:00 PM 9:00 PM
Ends Nov 22, 2025
Los Angeles, CA — Eastern Projects Gallery is stepping up to the plate this fall with DOUBLEPLAY, a one-of-a-kind exhibition by artists Billy Kheel and Pat Riot. The duo first connected over their shared love of the Dodgers—specifically one of the most unforgettable celebrations in team history: the legendary Crotch Bump. Much like the unforgettable collision between Gavin Lux and Kiké Hernández, Kheel and Riot come together in an exuberant celebration of sports—from baseball to basketball—with a deep, playful dive into Dodgers fandom, its rich culture, storied history, and the legendary figures who’ve worn the blue. Both artists live in the shadow of Chavez Ravine and are fired up to bring their sports-inspired work to Eastern Projects Gallery, helmed by owner and die-hard Dodgers fan Rigo Jimenez. While fueled by the electricity of another Dodgers playoff run, DOUBLEPLAY goes beyond the diamond, spotlighting athletes, teams, and unforgettable moments from across the world of sports. Pat Riot, often dubbed a “non-media specific” artist, turns to an iconic dugout staple for this show: bubble gum. From chewed remnants, he creates pointillist-style portraits that are as playful as they are nostalgic—recalling the sticky rituals of clubhouses and the faded glow of baseball cards. Billy Kheel transforms felt—the classic material of pennants and uniforms—into large-scale, hand-sewn tapestries. Combining sports card graphics with lush floral patterns, Kheel reframes athletes as both mythic icons and deeply human figures, blending heroism with heart. DOUBLEPLAY promises surprise, humor, and a healthy dose of irreverence in a world where sports have grown increasingly corporate and predictable. Step up to the plate on October 11 for the opening day of DOUBLEPLAY—a celebratory collision of art, sports, Dodgers fandom, and pure creative joy. Complimentary drinks will be served.
