Enjoy "Betty" by Sara Rouse at MorYork over the next two weekends. Betty is an exhibition organized around the installation Necklace/Net, a collection of intuitively-laced necklaces formed in the likeness of a fishing net. The work is made from both anonymous jewelry found in bulk mystery hauls online and more personal objects handed down or sentimentally kept. Alongside the installation are a selection of scanographs that use jewelry and personal ephemera to explore weightlessness, suspension, and storytelling. Together, these works are inspired by three generations of women in the artist's family keeping seashells in their jewelry boxes, by the cosmological metaphor of Indra's net, survival books, and emotional entanglement.
