Step into the countercultural world of the Soviet hippie underground as the Wende Museum launches the digital Azazello Archive. The archive, bequeathed to the museum by the late Anatoly Kalabin (known by his pseudonym Azazello), offers an extraordinary window into the life of a Soviet hippie, artist, and poet who lived beyond the bounds of conformity. This evening event features a conversation with Sasha Razor and curatorial team members Anna Fishzon, Juliane Fürst, and Margarit Ordukhanyan, who will discuss Azazello’s legacy and the challenges of preserving a life lived in resistance. The program will also include readings from his writings, selections from the archive's art, revealing the creativity and defiance that flourished beneath authoritarian rule. Guests will be treated to a complimentary reception with Soviet-inspired snacks and drinks, and a musical performance by Omar Torrez.
