Llyn Foulkes will perform original songs on The Machine for the public on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 4:00pm. Drawn to music and performance already in his childhood, Foulkes has maintained a life-long musical practice alongside his artistic one. He constructed and fine-tuned his Machine – a one-man-band built from an array of horn, bells, drums, wind instruments, and a string bass – over the course of several decades, creating not only a one-of-a-kind instrument but also an intriguing sculptural object in itself. The themes Foulkes explores in his lyrics parallel those in his collage-filled paintings, bringing together the history of Los Angeles, the ravages of capitalism, odes to the Old West, and tales of love, longing, and self-reflection.
