Film materials from artist Kaucyila Brooke's eponymous research project, shot in the cities of San Francisco (2007), Los Angeles (2005) and San Diego (1996) document the ephemeral structure of historic and recent lesbian social space through a focus on the bar. Surveying urban sites and anecdotal personal histories -- nuanced by friendship, sexuality, desire, and failures of memory -- Brooke's work traces a larger narrative arc through changes in public identity and the politics of collective social forms.
