Influenced by Haitian street theater, DIY film-making techniques, and classic kung-fu films, “Kingdom of Rhythms” is a modern day folktale set in a mythic Haiti. The video is an homage to shamanistic Vodoun drumming – the rhythms forged in the fusion of West African and indigenous cultural traditions that has fueled 500 years of resistance to oppression.
